“Depending on Me” by Straight to Voicemail-Bray Muhammad
Orange County Arts & Cultural Affairs presents “REMedy” a solo exhibit by Bray Muhammad in the Orange County Multicultural Center Art Gallery.
Have you ever woken from a dream and thought, wait … was that a message?
REMedy is a drip from the subconscious whimsical, weird, unsettling, and deeply Black. These pieces are rooted in the REM cycle, teetering the line between sleep and survival. They play dress-up with meaning, throw shade at reality, and dance with their ancestors in a dreamscape.
REMedy isn’t just an art show. It’s my dreams, my healing, and my truth on canvas. It’s a love letter to those who find beauty in the bizarre to the dreamers, the weirdos, and the culture.
Step into my REM cycle, where the surreal meets the real and art becomes medicine.
Bray Muhammad, known artistically as Straight to Voicemail, is a multimedia artist whose work pulses with emotion, surrealism, and unapologetic Black expression. From poetry and music to tattooing and makeup, Bray has lived a creative life in full, embracing each medium as a new language for her evolving story.
Living with a rare physical disability, Bray has long used art as both therapy and truth-telling. A way to transform vulnerability into resilience. Her process begins in the dream world: vivid, symbolic visions that become the blueprint for her emotionally charged, quirky, and deeply personal work. Each piece bridges the spiritual and the tangible, layering paint, texture, and mixed-media elements to build immersive worlds that feel alive.
Straight to Voicemail’s work celebrates the beauty of being raw, complex, and human, filtered through the lens of Black surrealism and a spirit that refuses to be silenced. It doesn’t just speak, it vibrates, inviting viewers to feel, reflect, and dream right alongside her.
The Multicultural Gallery | Orange County Multicultural Center | 7149 W. Colonial Drive, Orlando, FL 32818. “REMedy” will be on display through September 16, 2026. The Orange County Multicultural Center is open weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. except for holidays.
