Arts & Culture Calendar Submission Guidelines

United Arts’ Arts & Culture Calendar on ArtsInOrlando.com exists to uplift and expand access to arts, culture, science, and history experiences across Central Florida. These guidelines ensure submissions align with United Arts’ mission—to inspire and enrich communities by strengthening arts, science, history, and culture through strategic collaborations and investments—while maintaining a calendar that is accurate, inclusive, and suitable for a broad public audience.

These guidelines help staff:

• Ensure event eligibility
• Respond consistently to organizer inquiries or pushback
• Protect United Arts’ values of fairness, accessibility, inclusivity, and transparency
• Support the calendar as a cultural tourism and community impact tool

1. Geographic Eligibility

Events must take place within Central Florida.
Events outside the region are not accepted.

2. Content Standards: Artistic, Cultural & Educational Criteria

Events must contain a meaningful arts, culture, science, or history component, such as:

• Performing arts (theatre, dance, opera, music)
• Visual arts (exhibitions, installations, galleries)
• Literary arts (readings, workshops, festivals)
• Cultural heritage or history programs
• Film, digital art, or emerging media

Events must support United Arts’ mission of increasing access to arts, science, and culture in Central Florida.

Events primarily focused on non-arts activities do not qualify.

3. Mature, Sensitive, or “Risque” Content

United Arts embraces diverse artistic expression. However, because ArtsInOrlando.com serves a general audience, events including adult-oriented material must be clearly identified so users can make informed choices.

Acceptable With Clear Labeling

Events may include:

• Mature themes
• Artistic nudity
• Provocative content

Requirement:
If an event includes mature content intended for adults (18+), it must be clearly labeled with:

• “18+”, and
• Notes such as “Contains artistic nudity”, “Mature themes”, etc.

Not Accepted

Events featuring:

• Pornographic content
• Explicit sexual acts (beyond artistic depiction)
• Hate speech or derogatory content
• Violence targeting protected groups
• Content that violates these guidelines or Florida law

4. Religious Content

United Arts values all cultures and faith traditions and welcomes religious-themed arts events when the primary purpose is artistic or cultural.

Eligible

• Sacred music concerts
• Cultural or holiday festivals with artistic programming
• Exhibitions featuring religious imagery
• Theatre, film, or literature with spiritual themes

Not Eligible

Events whose primary purpose is:

• Worship
• Evangelism or proselytizing
• Prayer meetings
• Religious study groups
• Non-arts ceremonies

Guiding Principle:
If the event is primarily religious practice—not an arts or cultural experience—it is not eligible.

5. Event Quality Standards

To be approved, events must:

• Include accurate, complete information (date, time, location, description)
• Be open to the public
• Be hosted by a verifiable organization, venue, artist, or producer
• Be clearly arts/culture/science/history-focused

Events may be declined if:

• Information is incomplete or unclear
• The event is primarily a commercial sale or vendor market
• It is a fundraiser without an arts experience
• It poses safety concerns or violates these guidelines

6. Community Standards

The guidelines below function as the content standards for ArtsInOrlando.com.

Events must not:

• Promote harmful stereotypes
• Include hate speech or discriminatory content
• Target individuals or groups based on race, ethnicity, nationality, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, disability, or age
• Depict violence toward protected groups

Events with mature content must follow the labeling requirements outlined above.

United Arts may decline or remove events that violate these standards.

7. Submission Process & UACF Rights

United Arts reserves the right to:

Decline any submission not meeting these guidelines
Request clarification or edits
Remove events that violate these guidelines
Prioritize events submitted by United Arts grantees, partners, or major cultural institutions when capacity is limited
These rights ensure transparency, quality, and alignment with United Arts’ mission.
