Home of Bright Choices is a parent driven organization, headed by Arlene Rhodenbeck, dedicated to improving the lives of individuals with disabilities through education, support and advocacy services. The students have engaged in a variety of projects, with the help of a Teaching Artist Raymond Jimenez, to explore self-expression, the vigor of the creative process, and the challenges of presenting and creating artwork for both commercial and personal use. In their sessions, the students learn how artistic principles can be applied not just to their work, but to everyday life, in whatever field they wish to pursue.
The work presented is the result of their labor and exploration of art in clay and other sculptural mediums. For many, this is their first time engaging beyond an academic environment, journeying into the processes and culture in the greater community, specifically Orlando. They are finding their place, their form, and what it all means, as honestly and simply as the rest of us.
Raymond Jimenez is a ceramicist, sculptor, poet, and graduate from the University of Central Florida. He has been a Teaching Artist with Arts4All for over 6 years and has been an artist for many more. The work is the result of a partnership with the Home of Bright Choices, which provides a variety of programs for individuals with disabilities.
