National Young Composers Composium
Winning orchestra compositions from the nation’s top young composers are premiered on a national stage, rehearsed and performed by the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra and conducted by Maestro Christopher Wilkins.
The National Young Composers Challenge celebrates its 20th Anniversary Composium as the premier competition in America for orchestral music composition by young composers (ages 13-18). What is a Composium? Winning scores from the 2026 National Young Composers Challenge will be presented for the first time on a national stage! Throughout the day, the audience will enjoy the unique opportunity to share in a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process in action. Each composition will be rehearsed, giving each composer the chance to interact with Maestro Wilkins, the orchestra musicians, and the panel of judges. Sessions end with the final recorded performance conducted by Maestro Wilkins and played by the orchestra. The National Young Composers Challenge Composium is part concert, part masterclass, part competition, and guaranteed to be thrilling from start to finish.

Doors will be kept open during the day so that you can come to be inspired by your favorite young composer or stay for this entire amazing event! After the performance, everyone is invited to share refreshments and mingle with musicians, judges, the composers, their families, and of course, Maestro Wilkins.
