There’s always an interesting story behind the creation of an album, especially when it crosses over borders and cultures. In the case of Italian born Mafalda Minnozzi, it’s a story of a lifetime of cultural exchange that has earned her the “Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy” from Italy’s president Sergio Mattarella. Her trajectory from 1996, as performer to recording artist to even a television personality in Brazil, comes full circle on her Bossa Nova flavored release RIOFONIC, which was the number one played female vocal album on the 2025 year-end JazzWeek Top 100 radio chart.
After living with the musical culture and musicians for so many years, after collaborations with Milton Nascimento, Leny Andrade, Joao Bosco, Guinga and Martinho Da Vila, the time came for her to set forth from her roots and her time in the NY jazz clubs to join forces with Bossa Nova legend Roberto Menescal and an all-star Carioca band, giving thanks to the city of Rio and the music that prepared her for this musical celebration.
